service of all mankind.
Congregation: We dedicate this Sanctuary.

Minister: For the worship of God in praise; for the preaching of the everlasting gospel; for
the celebration of the Holy Sacraments.
Congregation: We dedicate this Sanctuary.

Minister: For the comfort of all who mourn; for the strength of those who are tempted; for
light to those who seek the way.
Congregation: We dedicate this Sanctuary.

Minister: For the hallowing of family life; for teaching and guiding the young; for the

perfecting of the saints.

Congregation: We dedicate this Sanctuary.

Minister: For the conversion of sinners; for the promotion of righteousness; for the
extension of the Kingdom of God.
Congregation: We dedicate this Sanctuary.

and service to you and your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

GUESTS OF GOD

"I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. " You enter this
church not as a stranger but as a guest of God. He is your heavenly Father. Come then, with
quiet expectation, joy in your heart, and thanks on your lips, offering Him your love and
zealous service. Be grateful to the strong and loyal men and women and children who in the
name of God budded this place of worship, and to all who have beautified it and hallowed it
with their prayers and praises. May all who love this house of faith find the inspiration of
their labor and rejoice in the power and love of God, that His blessings may rest on you both
on your going out and on your coming in.

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!
My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart

and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee.

A day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a door-
keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

BUILDER OF CHURCHES

God builds no churches! By His plan
That labor has been left to man;

No spires miraculously arise,
No little mission from the skies
Falls on a bleak and barren place
To be a source of strength and grace;
The church demands its price
In human toil and sacrifice.

The humblest spire in mortal ken,
Where God abides, was built by men;
And if the church is still to grow,
Is still the light of hope to throw
Across the valleys of despair,
Man still must build God's house of prayer.
God sends no churches from the skies;
Out of our hearts they must arise.

MY CHURCH

Before I was born my church gave to my parents ideals of life and love that made my
home a place of strength and beauty. In helpless infancy my church joined my parents in
consecrating me to Christ.

My church enriched my childhood with the romance of religion and the lessons of life
that have been woven into the texture of my soul. Sometimes I seem to have forgotten
and then, when else I might surrender to foolish and futile ideals of life, the truths my
church taught become radiant, insistent, and inescapable.

In the stress and storm of adolescence my church heard the surge of my soul and she
guided my footsteps by lifting my eyes toward the stars.

When first my heart knew the strange awakenings of love, my church taught me to
chasten and spiritualize my affections. She sanctified my marriage and blessed my home.

When my heart was seamed with sorrow and I thought the sun could never shine again,
my church drew me to the Friend of all the weary and whispered to me the hope of
another morning, eternal and tearless.

When my steps have slipped and I have known the bitterness of sin, my church has
believed in me and willingly she has called me back to live within the heights of myself.

Now have come the children dearer to me that life itself, and my church is helping me to
train them for all joyous and clean and Chrisfly living.

My church calls me to her heart. She asks my service and my loyalty. She has a right to
ask it. I will help her to do for others what she has done for me. In this place in which I
live, I will help her keep aflame and aloft the torch of a living faith.

William H. Boddy
